Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a pathological condition characterised by the presence of functional endometrial tissue outside the uterus. Haemorrhage of this tissue at menstruation causes pain, inflammation, scarring, infertility and distortion of normal anatomy. Endometriosis is believed to affect up to 10% of all women, and up to 50% of infertile women. The aetiology of endometriosis is unknown.
