In 2003 work began on the design of an improved real-time fluid monitoring device. The device, named Equimat, is used during operative hysteroscopic surgery to calculate retained glycine solution. The retained fluid has a potentially fatal consequence if not measured and allowed to accumulate. The development became necessary as an Australian supplier did not exist.
A suitable stand for the transducer and electronics array was designed and trialled over a number of months. Several modifications to the stand were implemented and a useful commercially viable product was developed with N.Stenning & Co of Camperdown, Sydney by November 2003.
